Helena L (Year 13) has achieved an outstanding personal milestone, earning a Distinction in the 2024 UK Mathematical Olympiad. Taking on the challenging three-hour examination, which presents competitors with five complex mathematical problems, Helena demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities and mathematical insight. Her remarkable performance, in which she secured two-thirds of the available marks, stands as a testament to her dedication and mathematical talent.
This prestigious achievement is particularly impressive given the rigorous nature of the Olympiad, which attracts the nation’s most talented young mathematicians. As a Year 13 student, Helena has shown that hard work, passion for mathematics, and determination can lead to extraordinary results.
Battle Abbey’s Mathematics department continues to go from strength to strength and summer 2024 saw no less than 86% of the A Level cohort achieve A*-C, while Further Mathematics A Level saw the entire cohort achieve A*-B. At GCSE level no less than two thirds of the students achieved grades 9-7. Exceptional for a school that is proudly a mixed ability setting.
