Martlet House

Battle Abbey School became the new owner of the former Yesterday’s World museum on Battle High Street at the end of 2015. The School had been looking for external sites for some time and the Yesterday’s World purchase constitutes part of a general programme of expansion, the school having recently purchased a large detached house on Hastings Road now the School’s Marylands Boarding facility.

The former museum, now called Martlet House, occupies over 8,000 square feet of space in central Battle, and allows Battle Abbey School to cater for increased demand for Sixth Form places from schools like St Richards, Robertsbridge and Claverham. The former exhibit rooms have been converted to provide extra classrooms, a conference facility, fitness studio, and café area for use by Sixth Form pupils.

The development and use of the new Martlet House facility constituted a two phase process. The rear part of the development opened in April 2016 for the schools busy exam schedule and the High Street frontage and original house opened in time to receive pupils in September 2016.
