Pupil mock Crown Court case results in not-guilty verdict

As part of Activities Week, our Year 10 students who were not on work experience, took part in an exciting and immersive mock Crown Court case, bringing the courtroom to life in school! Students took on key legal roles including defence and prosecution barristers, the defendant, witnesses, jury members, and more. They planned and delivered opening and closing statements, compiled evidence, and witness statements, and demonstrated impressive skills in questioning and cross-examination—all within a fully set-up mock court, complete with a dock and witness box. Presided over by our very own Mr Mercer in the role of Judge and guided by Mrs Ingall, the session culminated in a ‘not guilty’ verdict after careful deliberation by the student jury. This engaging experience wasn’t just about drama—it played a vital role in helping students develop: Oracy and public speaking skills, Teamwork and critical thinking, An understanding of British values, particularly the rule of law and justice, Insight into potential career paths in law, criminology, and public service. A huge well done to all students involved—you were articulate, confident, and thoroughly professional!
