Prep School Activity week round up!

Monday – As part of our Year 3 and 4 Activity Week, pupils explored a variety of fruits and vegetables and practised using persuasive language to describe their textures, flavours and appeal. From crunchy to tangy, pupils rose to the challenge of tempting their audience with carefully chosen vocabulary.

Tuesday – Pupils visited the historic windmill at Windmill Hill to learn how flour is traditionally made and to explore the inner mechanisms of this remarkable listed building. They gained a hands-on understanding of how wind power has been harnessed throughout history for milling grain, along with some spectacular views over Sussex.

Wednesday – On Wednesday, back at school, KS2 pupils put their measuring, mixing and baking skills to the test by making jam-drop biscuits. This practical session helped reinforce their understanding of recipes and food preparation while also developing teamwork and fine motor skills, and of course some sweet treats for our trips!

Thursday – On Thursday, our KS2 pupils travelled by train to Hastings, where they enjoyed a traditional meal of fish and chips at a local restaurant. They also took part in a guided tour of the Old Town fishing district, learning about the boats used in our local fishing industry and the importance of sustainable practices. We also explored George Street’s enormous variety of restaurants and eateries, examining how Hastings has changed from old to new. The children were fantastic with the public, and received many compliments about their behaviour, manners and helpfulness.

Friday – For their final day of Activity Week, Years 3 and 4 tried their hand at using common household foods to make tie-dye fabric designs, and vegetables to make patterned prints. They then showed off their research skills as they examined how far their food had travelled to make it to our tables, marking their results on their enormous world map.
