VE Day at Battle Abbey School

VE Day at Battle Abbey School. Pupils were taken through a special VE assembly by Deputy Head Pastoral, Mrs Ingall, before Headteacher Mrs Blake, Mrs Ingall and pupil Emmie S (cadet) laid a wreath at the VE Day Church service at St Mary’s in Battle.
Mrs Ingall shared about her passion for the aircraft that helped craft the landscape for VE Day, and the moving story of family member Flt Lt. T.R Jones, who was part of a Pathfinder mission with 100 Squadron and was awarded the DFM; a personal and poignant story that helped to illustrate the human stories that VE Day encourages us to reflect on.
The School takes it’s duty to inform pupils of British values, and the Social and Moral education of our pupils very seriously. In the same way that the Abbey provides our pupils with a solid dependable, reassuring and unchanging physical environment at times of change and uncertainty both personally and on the world stage; understanding our countries History, the sacrifice of former generations and where we come from is critical in grounding our pupils and teaching them about respect.
