Members of the BA Golfing Society (former pupils George F and Josh S who both left in 2021), and one current pupil Thomas B (Year 8), competed recently at Cooden Beach Golf Club for the second ‘Angela Bonallack Memorial Trophy’, a beautifully engraved glass vase presented by the Bonallack family in memory of Battle Abbey School former pupil, Lady Angela Bonallack (née Ward, St. Martin’s House 1951-54). Angela was married to Sir Michael Bonallack (knighted for services to golf) and together were a remarkable golfing couple who both represented Great Britain and Ireland on numerous occasions. Angela herself played in six consecutive Curtis Cups for GB and Ireland versus the USA. Angela’s sister, Shirley Sutton (St. Martin’s 1957-61) presented the trophy to this year’s winner, Di Caulfeild-Stoker (St. Etheldreda’s 1962-67), almost two years to the day since Angela died. Next year’s competition will take place once again at Cooden Beach Golf Club on Monday 30th June 2025, and any current parents, pupils and members of staff, who regularly play golf are very welcome to take part.
