SIXTH FORM

THE SIXTH FORM BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

EMPOWERING FUTURES. INSPIRING EXCELLENCE.

At our Sixth Form Centre, we don’t just prepare students for exams — we prepare them for life. Our thriving, inclusive community supports every individual to excel academically, grow personally, and confidently take their next steps into university, apprenticeships, or the world of work.

The Sixth Form offers change, a wealth of new opportunities and a chance to prepare for the future.

We have a host of annual events all aimed at preparing our Sixth Form for life beyond the Abbey walls. Our annual Universities fairs give pupils the opportunity to discuss with returning former pupils what to expect at University or on a particular course or campus, as well as any other matters like managing time, money or a part time job. Our Careers Fair sees our connections in the parent body, regional business and the local community come to the Abbey to offer pupils of all year groups a glimpse in to some possible career options. We also host regular interview practice sessions with visiting external professionals, conduct workshops on how to operate on line in yoru social media accounts and offer practical advice on CV and letter writing. Our careers provision is underpinned by Unifrog which is an industry standard software package giving pupils access to a huge wealth of online content about Universities, application processes and the world of work. We have regular dedicated Careers talks from industry figures, offer advice on utilising Linked in and if pupils are still unsure or would just like some independent advice we can book sessions with the schools independent careers advisor.

From Oxbridge applicants to budding entrepreneurs, we support a diverse range of aspirations. Our alumni have gone on to top universities, apprenticeships, and exciting careers — all starting with the foundation built at our Sixth Form.

PASTORAL SUPPORT

Our dedicated Sixth Form team offers outstanding pastoral care. From academic mentoring to personal guidance, we make sure every student feels seen, heard, and supported. We also provide tailored advice on university applications, CV building, and career pathways.

CAMPUS BATTLE

Our Martlet House Sixth Form Centre based in the heart of Battle with its access to the high street, coffee shops, co-op and amenities our Sixth Form pupils, who have far more latitude to access the high street than our younger pupils, really enjoy the opportunity to not only experience what we call ‘Campus Battle’ but to get some space away from some of our younger pupils for a while!

The Sixth Form also retain dedicated common and study rooms at the Abbey but the majority of Sixth Form lessons, and Sixth Form life happens at Martlet House.

Martlet House features a common room with sofas and a pool table, a café area, quite study rooms and has a dedicated kitchen staffed by the incomparable Annie who treats all the pupils as family.

Martlet House is a welcoming space that promotes independent study, collaboration, and creativity. Whether you’re working on coursework, relaxing with friends, or planning a project, you’ll find the perfect environment here.

Extensive gardens and an outside decking area complete the picture and are extremely popular in the summer months. Life in the Sixth Form is hard work but pupils are treated as mature young adults. There is no school uniform but the requirement to dress like young professional people.

The Gateway represents everything we aspire to in education. It is students choosing to wrestle with complex ideas not because they have to, but because they want to. It’s young minds making connections across disciplines, seeing patterns and possibilities that their teachers might have missed. It’s the kind of learning that stays with you long after the last exam is finished.
