WHY BATTLE ABBEY SCHOOL?
Battle Abbey Senior School is a premier independent senior school that provides outstanding education and countless opportunities for your child’s holistic development. With a rich history and a commitment to excellence, our school offers a nurturing and inspiring environment for students to thrive.
THE EDUCATION
With over 20 GCSE Subjects and over 20 A Level Subjects and with a National reputation in creative arts, music, drama, maths and science. The real difference is the culture of success in our classroom settings. Small class sizes (maximum 19) ensure no pupil is overlooked. Our broad Curriculum includes both BTEC and A Level options and the school regularly achieves outstanding results with our EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) cohort. Over 95% of pupils achieve their desired destinations post- sixth form with recent University Destinations including Cambridge, Oxford, Exeter, Imperial College London, Warwick, Southampton, Bath, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Royal Holloway, Kings College London, Durham and Nottingham.
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
The school marries a traditional English Education with the technology and flexibility to develop a thriving work force for the future.
Our extensive Extra Curricular Programme arms pupils with the soft skills they need, organisitaion, public speaking, event management, to thrive in the workplace beyond the Abbey walls. The confidence and natural charm that Battle Abbey pupils exhibit is well known in the area and our pupils remain the best ambassadors for the school. Our enthusiastic and supportive staff will ensure that your child is known at the school and all pupils are treated with respect. Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre, which occupies a position on the high street a stones thrown from the abbey Gatehouse, is hugely popular with our sixth form cohort many of which use the café, silent study rooms and common room when not in lessons. Last but by no means least is our reputation for serving a wide choice of fantastic Food.
Set in a beautiful English market town and with a direct train to London Battle Abbey pupils really value the access to the High Street, particularly in the sixth form where Campus Battle fulfills much of what you would expect from a High street including banks, coffee shops and a supermarket.
The school and its pupils are an intrinsic part of Battle and with the school based in the Abbey, the site of the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the school gatehouse dominates one end of Battle High Street.
EXTRA CURRICULAR
The school runs approximately 50 free clubs and activities weekly, before and after school and at lunchtimes. There are also seven Academic Societies which are the perfect opportunity to introduce leadership and roles of responsibility to pupils across all year groups. Battle Abbey School plays approximately 25 sports annually and despite being a small school have enjoyed success in Hockey, Football Netball and perhaps most notably swimming, where we are current national champions at key stage 2 level and national finalists nine years running. This is not only down to our inspirational swim teaching but our heated indoor six lane swimming pool which sees all pupils have the opportunity to try out for our swim squad.
Our national reputation in music sees a large number of our pupils in one of the five Choirs though there are opportunities for those with instrument experience in our string quartet, youth orchestra. For those with different tastes our sound proofed practice spaces see several bands practice weekly with one due to play their first outdoor concert to 2,000 people at the Abbey this summer. The Performing Arts Centre becomes a home from home for many pupils while others prefer our fully equipped Gym. Our Engineering Hub is increasingly popular with groups from all Key Stages working on a variety of projects most nights of the week. Currently we have a go Kart, Remote Control Cars and planes in various stages of production while the 3D printer is currently in use by our F1 in Schools team (where we regularly reach the National finals in Rotherham.
THE SCHOOL
100 Years old and Set in a 1,000 year old building, heritage tradition and a ethos based on mutual respect ensure the school is a friendly, welcoming and collaborative place. The school regularly achieves exceptional A Level and GCSE results whist being proudly non selective. Although not academically selective we are selective on character and this is how we get the best out of all the pupils and develop a real culture of success sin the classroom which in turn proves to be very successful for the school in terms of its approval ratings from parents, its reputation for being pastoral and nurturing and its academic excellence. With around 370 pupils on site, including 60 Boarders from 15 different countries the school engenders values of tolerance, respect and compassion in its pupils whilst arming them for the workplace and university life that lie beyond the abbey walls. Battle Abbey School is a registered charity, truly independent and is not owner controlled under the oversight of an executive board of Governors.
