Battle Abbey School is celebrating yet another year of exceptional academic achievement, with this year’s results not only building on last year’s impressive performance but also remaining well above national averages.
This year’s leavers will be taking their next steps at a range of prestigious institutions across the UK and overseas, including the University of St Andrews, University of Exeter, University of Portsmouth, Central Saint Martins, University of York, Durham University, Cardiff University, University of Bath, and the University of Nottingham.
At A Level students delivered an outstanding set of results in 2024, improving on last year’s A Level and BTEC achievements. Over a third of all grades were A* to A, whilst almost two thirds were within the A* – B grades, significantly exceeding national figures and enabling over 90% of students to go on to their first-choice destination.

Among the many high achievers, several students deserve special mention. Helena L earned three A* grades and an A to take up English and German Law at King’s College London; Tom C achieved three A* grades and will study Philosophy at Warwick; Peter Clark achieved AAB and will go on to study Theology at Oxford; Sergey G achieved two A*s and two As and will go on to university in Canada; Anton O secured one A* and two As and will study Chemistry, Biological and Medicinal Chemistry at York; Jack F earned three As and a B to study Electrical Engineering at Bristol; Archie S achieved three As and a C to study Economics at Durham; Sara A gained two As and a B to pursue Medicine at Leicester; and Elizabeth D gained one A* and two Bs and will now pursue a tailoring apprenticeship.
Across the curriculum, there were outstanding performances in BTEC courses including Sport and Business Studies, together with continued excellence across A Level subjects such as English Literature, Computing, and the Creative Arts. The Extended Project Qualification also delivered exceptional outcomes, with 69% of students achieving an A* and 85% securing either A* or A. This additional Sixth Form qualification at Battle Abbey enables students to explore a topic they are passionate about in depth, honing advanced research, analytical, and presentation skills that not only prepare them for university study and future careers, but also give them an edge in some competitive applications.
Alongside our A Level and BTEC Curriculum, our extensive Sixth Form Extended Project Qualification programme achieved superb results with 69% of the cohort receiving an A* with 84% of all grades at either A* or A. This A Level equivalent qualification is a hugely valued ‘pre-university’ preparation tool which has allowed them to explore a passion or interest and learn some vital skills for future dissertations or work projects.

At GCSE level 62% of all grades at Level 9-6, 39% at Level 9-7 and 40% of all students securing at least one Level 9. We also congratulate a number of our younger students who sat GCSE examinations this year as part of our bespoke curriculum offer, securing success at the very highest Level 9 standard in a variety of subjects.
There were excellent performances in Religious Studies where 75% of the cohort achieved grades 9-7. Our strength in Mathematics continues with two thirds of the students achieving grades 9-7. Creative Arts also excelled with 100% of our Textile students achieving grades 9-7 and our Fine Art students achieving 55% of all grades at a 9.
