Karen Dobres (pictured here with Mrs Fraser), co-architect of the #EqualityFC initiative at Lewes Football Club, was one of the keynote speakers at the school’s inaugural Futures Day on Monday.
Other notable visitors included Olympic gold medallist rower Rory Gibbs; a BBC wildlife cameraman; representatives from commercial aviation, the Civil Service, architecture, performing arts, maritime engineering, and leadership development; a former Amazon Web Services executive; as well as a wide range of universities and further education providers.
In total, more than 32 speakers delivered 55 individual sessions—all before lunchtime—giving pupils an exceptional opportunity to explore a diverse array of careers, pathways, and experiences. University representatives included King’s College London, Durham, Exeter, Oxford Brookes, Surrey, and the London Interdisciplinary School.
Access Oxbridge also led three workshops exploring life at Oxford and Cambridge, dispelling common myths surrounding the application process and offering practical advice and encouragement to aspiring applicants.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in practical activities designed to develop teamwork skills and deepen their understanding of different career routes. They also had the opportunity to practise interview techniques and learn about the launch of the Abbey Guild, which will support vocational and career development for students at the Abbey.
